Making a peg loom

As if I’m not busy enough, what with crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch, fleece and spinning, I put down my crochet hook in favour of a drill and saw yesterday and crafted up this fabulous peg loom. In my defence, it was a lovely local smallholder (you know who you are, Mrs T) who suggested the idea - she has a gorgeous Valais Blacknose sheep (George) and liked the idea of having a George rug. I did a bit of research and decided it would be cheaper to make a peg loom than buy one, so my poor hubby was sent off to the local hardware store for wood, dowel, sandpaper and drill bits!

You can weave the raw wool straight onto the loom, but I decided to wash and card (brush) it first. As it was my first attempt, I went small scale and made a mat rather than a rug - as you can see, Bertie Dog thoroughly approves of my efforts!

Once I’d tied off all the ends and sewn them in, I gave the mat a good wash and left it to dry. The final product was so soft and squishy under foot - just gorgeous!
